The purpose of SEWAOHN is to:
1) Constitute the professional organization of registered nurses engaged
in the practice of occupational health nursing.
2) Promote and provide continuing education in occupational health
nursing for members;
3) Maintain the integrity and character of the nursing profession;
4) Improve community
health by providing quality nursing services to workers;
5) Promote standards for occupational health nurses and services;
6) Advance the profession through discussion
of issues in the field of occupational health nursing;
7) Promote
health and safety of workers and support occupational health nursing practice through monitoring and influencing legislation
and regulations;
8) Stimulate occupational health nursing participation in all nursing activities - local,state,regional,and
national.
SEWAOHN consists of over 150 occupational and environmental nurses
from the greater Milwaukee area, including Waukesha, Milwaukee, Ozaukee, Racine, and Kenosha Counties. Occupational Health
Nurses work in settings that range from manufacturing and direct services to health care. SEWAOHN provides Milwaukee area
nurses opportunity to obtain mentoring, to earn continuing education units, and to identify best practices in health, wellness
and safety management.
SEWAOHN's programming goals for the year include improving member
communication and educational offerings. These goals are driven by annual survey results, and provided an intensive opportunity
for members to gain knowledge in their field
